Fun Facts About Animals

Here are some reasons why animals and nature should not be endangered due to the special traits they have. Different traits make them majestic and beautiful creatures. Here are some of my favorite animals' facts.

Wild Cats: 

                           Lions & Lionesses

    1. Kick their cubs out of the pride around age 2 because there can only be one king, but female cubs stay    

    2. Use their manes and sharp claws to fight other lions that may want to join their pride 

    3. Fight other lions to see who gets to mate with lionesses

    4. Sleep for 21 out of 24 hours a day 

    5. Lionesses work in groups to hunt and ambush their prey (zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, and antelope) 

            
                           Tigers & Tigresses:
    1. Are the largest cat in the cat family 
    2. Use their stripes as a way of camouflage while hunting 
    3. Female tigers are more aggressive than male tigers
    4. The father tiger protects his cubs in a solitary life 
    5. Tigers enjoy swimming as a hobby

Wild Dogs: 
                           Wolves:
    1. Live in groups called packs 
    2. Use howls as communicating 
    3. Are litter animals (have many puppies at once) 
    4. Have long legs to run fast when hunting (36 to 38 mph) 
    5. Have 42 sharp teeth for killing and eating their prey 

   Wild Birds:
                          Flamingos:
    1. Sleep with only standing on one leg 
    2. Chicks are born white 
    3. Get their beautiful pink color from eating shrimp (white and red make pink) 
    4. A group of flamingos are known as a flamboyance 
     5. Make their nests out of mud 
                          
                         Peacocks & Peahens:
    1. Use their features and dance to attract/ impress peahens 
    2. A female peacock is known as a peahen 
    3. Have up to 150 feathers 
    4. Peahens have duller and brown features 
    5. Peacocks have brighter featured colors like green and blue 

Wild Sea Creatures:
                         Turtles: 
    1. Lay their eyes along the beach and return back to sea 
    2. Baby turtles crawl out of their eggs by themselves and make their way into the ocean 
    3. Use their hard shells as protection from enemies and bad weather 
    4. Walk slow on land, but swim super-fast at 22 mph 
    5. The endangered Leatherback sea turtle is the largest (550 to 2,000 Ibs) out of 356 species of turtles

                        Dolphins:
     1. One of the most intelligent creatures on Earth 
     2. Dolphins come up to the surface while swimming to put air in their lungs because they're marine mammals 
     3. Can dive up to 1,000 feet 
     4. Are pregnant between 9 and 16 months 
    5. Can last up to 50 years 

Wild Bears: 
                       Polar Bears:
    1. Are the ONLY carnivores in the bear family
    2. Use their fur as camouflage while hunting 
    3. Blubber fat helps make a warm coat of fur for bears to survive in The Arctic Circle 
    4. Cubs wrestling helps them fight for real when they are adult bears
    5. Can swim with their strong paws up to 25 mph while searching for food  
                 
                     Grizzly/ Brown Bears:
1. Have poor sense of hearing and sight, but have extremely strong sense of smell to seek danger or food
2. Are omnivores (eat fish and plants)
3. Hibernate in a den for the entire winter
4. Have sharp and curved claws used for tearing, catching, and digging 
5. Play part in The Great Salmon Run 

Wild Apes:
                      Chimpanzees:
    1. Groom each other's fur in search for dirt, dry skin and bugs/ insects 
    2. Bark or hoot over 30 different sounds and scream when they are excited or angry 
    3. Use plants and branches as tools to build and figure out things 
    4. Mothers teach their infants what to eat, how to move and how to behave 
    5. The Alpha Male is known as the leader of the group
          
                      Gorillas:
1. The leader of the family is known as the Silverback Gorilla 
2. Live in big family groups (Between 5 to 20 individuals) 
3. Silverbacks display their full strength and size when there is danger to defend the family 
4. Build nests/ beds out of leaves and dry grass
5. Gorilla babies are known as infants 
  
Wild Monkeys:
                    Ringtail Lemurs: 
1. Only found on the island of Madagascar 
2. Live in groups of about 30 individuals 
3. Enjoy sunbathing 
4. Use their tails to lead and see each other 
5. Tails are 1.8 to 2.1 ft long 
      
                    Baboons:
1. Have large heads, pouches for storing food, and long doglike muzzles
2. Make face signals and make calling sounds to communicate 
3. Sleep in treetops at night for safety from predators 
4. Share their food, care for their young, and watch for predators 
5. Have a community of 200 individuals 

All of these different species are endangered. I hope you learned something about some of my favorite animals. Take away some of this information and pass it on to spread animal rights awareness. Show who animals truly are and what they are capable of thanks to their unique traits.
